Spud King Tony Galati now has his own chips brand with launch of Spuddies
The long-awaited moment has finally arrived with the launch of Spud King Tony Galati’s own range of locally grown and produce potato chips.
The chips are made from potatoes grown on Galati farms in Myalup north of Bunbury, Lancelin and Manjimup and will be available at Spudshed stores across WA from this week.
Mr Galati said the launch of crinkle-cut Spuddies was a natural progression for the group which had built its reputation as the State’s premier potato farmers.
“We grow some of the best potatoes in Australia and yet we haven’t had any chips made in WA for nearly a decade,” he said.
“As West Aussies we deserve our own locally made, quality chips. I’ve been working with potatoes most of my life, so making a potato chip here in WA was the obvious next step in making the most of my favourite veg.”
Available in 300g packets, the chips come in four flavours - original, barbeque, chicken, and salt and vinegar - and cost $3.99.
The Galati Group has invested $1 million in a processing facility in Myalup to produce the chips.
Mr Galati and his 2000-strong workforce was proud of the new product.
“We have the best spuds, and now we have the best chips,” he said.
