The WA lamb and mutton market has been stable leading up to the short weeks heading into the Christmas and new year period.

Trade lambs remain above $7 and mutton $3.20-$3.40.

Store markets are still very firm for anything around 40kg and prices at $3/kg liveweight or better.

Lighter stores aren’t as aggressively bid but homes are still available with more stubbles available each week.

Breeding ewes have lifted $5-$10 over the past fortnight, with 1.5 to 2.5-year-old Merino ewes trading at $85-$100 depending on quality and line size.

On the east coast, January bids are $9 for trade lambs and $4.50 for mutton.

Freight on lambs works out about $1.40/kg so WA markets look to be well supported at current levels.
