Anzac Day commemorated in Margaret River

Margaret River welcomed a very strong turn-out to Anzac Day commemorations at Memorial Park on Thursday.

The dawn service was well attended as residents and visitors gathered to pay their respects to the fallen as well as those who supported them.

Returned and Services League Margaret River president Keith Simmonds this year singled out the role of families in times of war.

“Today, as we gather in remembrance, let us not only honour the bravery of our veterans but also acknowledge the enduring sacrifice of their families,” he said.

“Their resilience and dedication have been the bedrock of our armed forces, sustaining our service members through the darkest of days.

“As the dawn breaks, let us renew our commitment to never forget the sacrifices of the past.

“Let us honour the memory of those who have fallen and pay tribute to the living embodiment of Anzac spirit among us.”

Mr Simmonds also noted the tragic loss of five serving Australian Defence Force personnel this year in training accidents.

He said it was a timely reminder of the sacrifices made for the sake of the nation.

Michelle Spriggs and Andrea Manners sang the New Zealand and Australian national anthems after the big crowd observed a minute’s silence.
