Harvey Bulls bounce back from first loss of SWFL women’s season with win against Carey Park

The Harvey Bulls women’s team have bounced back after a shocking defeat, comfortably beating Carey Park.

After the side suffered a 91-point loss to Bunbury earlier this month, the top-of-the-ladder team came back with a vengeance after a two-week break to defeat the Panthers 9.11 (65) to 3.0 (18).

Harvey were able to keep their opponents scoreless in the first quarter of Sunday afternoon’s match at Harvey Oval, but it was far from a strong lead after they kicked five behinds.

The lead changed multiple times in the first half as the result of tit-for-tat goal scoring by the Panthers and Bulls, with the visitors leading 3.0 (18) to 2.5 (17).

It was as good as the game got for Carey Park, with the team failing to add to their score at all in the second half.

Bulls star Megan Minton was the leading goal scorer in the match with four.

In a match rescheduled to Friday night, the opening game for round 13 between Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault and Collie was a completely one-sided affair.

Despite having the home-ground advantage at Collie Recreation Ground, the Eagles were unable to translate it into a single point during play, finishing the game with a 6.12 (48) to 0.0 (0) defeat against the Lions.

HBL set up their big win early, kicking five goals in the first quarter.

Despite kicking inaccuracies resulting in three behinds for the Lions, it was clear by half-time the Eagles would face an uphill challenge to win the match.

Leading 5.3 (33) to 0.0 (0) before the second half began, it did not matter too much that HBL kicked five more behinds before the team’s final goal in the third quarter.

Collie couldn’t improve in the final quarter, despite the Lions being goalless.

Shelby Humphries was the leading goal kicker for the winning side with two.

On Sunday afternoon, Eaton were left to pick up the pieces after Dunsborough more than trebled their score on Sunday afternoon.

The Boomers proved no match for the Sharks, who easily won the match 3.13 (31) to 1.1 (7).

The travelling side failed to score any points in the second and fourth quarters, and were entirely goal-less after the first quarter.
