Shivan Arasu-Dahl: NSW Police reveal new details about $1.8m cash seizure which led to arrest of five people

New details about a joint New South Wales and WA Police investigation — which led to the arrest of a prominent Perth DJ — have emerged as NSW Police made a public appeal about a massive $1.8 million cash haul. As first revealed by The West Australian, WA Police charged Perth DJ Shivan Arasu-Dahl, 32, with a range of serious drug and money laundering offences after a major operation was launched last October by the drug and firearm squad and NSW Police. The operation began when intelligence was provided to NSW Police by WA Police, which resulted in the seizure of $1.8 million in New South Wales. Little information was given about that cash seizure at a press conference held by WA Police on Wednesday. But on Thursday NSW Police revealed the seizure occurred during a vehicle stop in Sydney’s west last year. “As part of an ongoing joint investigation with the Western Australia Police Force, raptor squad highway patrol officers were patrolling the Abbotsbury area when they stopped a vehicle about 10.50am on Thursday 27 October 2022,” a spokesperson said. “Police spoke to the male driver, before a subsequent search of the vehicle located $1.8 million inside several vacuum-sealed bags. “Officers seized the money for further forensic examination. “The man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station, but was released pending further inquiries.” The driver is not one of five men charged in recent weeks by the drug and firearm squad in WA as part of the ongoing operation. The NSW Police spokesperson said it would be alleged the $1.8 million originated from WA and was “intended to be used to purchase prohibited drugs” which were to be transported back to WA. “As investigations continue, police are urging anyone who may have information to come forward,” they said. Mr Arasu-Dahl was arrested on February 2 — as a result of the ongoing joint investigation that was sparked by the $1.8m cash seizure — when his vehicle was stopped in Rivervale. It will be alleged a search of the vehicle unearthed a trafficable amount of methylamphetamine and $92,547 cash. Police have also charged him in connection to a huge haul of drugs found in a storage yard in Maylands in January. Detectives will allege the storage yard contained more than four kilos of meth, 2.3 kilograms of cocaine, 1.5 kilograms of MDMA and 4.5 kilograms of cannabis. The 32-year-old from Rivervale is facing nine separate counts of possessing prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply. He’s also facing one count of laundering property/money from the proceeds of a major offence. Mr Arasu-Dahl has not been charged in relation to the $1.8 million cash seizure in New South Wales. He made a brief court appearance on Wednesday. He will next face court for a bail application on February 20.
