Geraldton has suffered through an unseasonal hot spell of four consecutive days above 40C.

Almost a full month into autumn, Perth has experienced its hottest recorded March week since 1985 with a series of days reaching the high 30Cs.

However, the mercury has been even higher in Geraldton.

For the past four days, daily weather observations from the Bureau of Meteorology at Geraldton Airport recorded a series of 40C-plus days across the working week.

Monday was the hottest day, with the highest March temperature so far of a blistering 42.9C, while Tuesday recorded a maximum of 40.7C.

There was no reprieve on Wednesday, with the mercury rising to 41.7C, while Thursday’s peak reached an uncomfortable 41.5C.

Although some residents took to the foreshore to cool down, it seemed most people chose to stay indoors on Thursday, relaxing in the cool air-conditioning.

The forecast maximum on Friday is 39C.

According to BOM’s predicted weekly forecast, Geraldton should start to feel a cooler change from Monday.
