Waroona residents will be able to swim on a Saturday for the first time under new hours at the recreation centre.

The Shire of Waroona council voted last month to implement new working hours at the Waroona Recreation and Aquatic Centre, opening the facility on Saturdays through summer for the first time.

Under the changes, the centre will be open from November 1 to March 31 every weekend from 10am to 2pm. Previously the centre was closed every Saturday.

The winter hours of the centre have also changed, opening on Sundays from 10am to 2pm from April 1 to October 31. In the past the centre would be closed all weekend.

The centre’s weekdays hours will also change, closing at 7pm instead of 8pm.

Cr Larry Scott said at last month’s the changes had come about through ratepayers’ requests.

“You’ll notice in the calculation the cost taken away from one hour a week makes up the extra day,” he said.

“So this is very cost-effective and is responding to the requests of the ratepayers.”
