Start your day with a brekky roll, celebrate local award winners, then kick back and soak up tunes from two of rock ‘n roll’s most iconic figures this Australia Day.

There will be plenty of activities happening in Kalgoorlie-Boulder on Sunday to mark the nation’s big day.

As is tradition, The Great Aussie Breakfast invites residents to bring a gold coin donation and enjoy a hot breakfast on the lawns of Centennial Park at 7am.

Formalities will begin at 8am to announce the recipients of this year’s Australia Day awards and celebrate the city’s newest Australian Citizens.

Lawn games and other fun, family-friendly activities will be held later in the morning.

Ending the day on a high, Thomas Crane will light up the Soundshell stage with an electrifying tribute to two of rock ‘n roll’s most iconic figures — Freddie Mercury and David Bowie.

Crane’s performance will relive some of Queen’s greatest hits, from their glam rock beginnings to their later anthems.

Audiences will also journey through the evolving musical landscape of David Bowie to celebrate his remarkable range of styles and personas.

The free community concert will be the first of three instalments in this year’s Sunset Concert Series hosted by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The second concert, on February 8, will see Coldplay tribute band, Coldplace, perform classics such as Yellow, Fix You, Viva La Vida, Clocks and Paradise.

Iconic Aussie band The Cat Empire will perform their new material alongside crowd favourites during the final concert series instalment on February 15.
