A man charged over the alleged targeted shooting of a man parked in his car outside a western Sydney home will ring in the New Year behind bars on remand.

Romeo Shoker, 35, appeared before Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday charged in relation to the alleged targeted shooting.

Police were called to Sutherland St in Canley Heights shortly before 7pm on Sunday following reports of a shooting.

A 31-year-old man was treated by ambulance paramedics for gunshot wounds, but tragically died at the scene.

Officers said they would allege the victim, David Khou, was sitting in his car at his home when he was shot.

On Monday, police further alleged Mr Khou had links to Asian organised crime, including in illicit drugs.

Mr Shoker was arrested that morning after a vehicle stop by Raptor Squad on Cowpasture Rd in Cecil Hills.

He was later charged with accessory after the fact to murder and driver not disclosing the identity of driver/passenger.

Mr Shoker did not appear before court on New Year’s Eve from custody, with his lawyer not applying for his release.

The 35-year-old will ring in the New Year behind bars on remand before reappearing before the court in February.

The court was told Mr Shoker, who was on Tuesday represented by Legal Aid, will instead be represented by a private lawyer.

Documents tendered to the court reveal police allege Mr Shoker “did receive, harbour, maintain and assist (the) unnamed person responsible for the murder of David Khou”.

Officers further allege Mr Shokar refused to provide identity information shortly after 1pm on Monday at Fairfield.

An abandoned car was found on fire on Bathurst St in nearby Wakeley shortly after the alleged shooting took place.

The fire was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW, with police believing it is linked to the alleged shooting.

A search warrant was also executed at a Bossley Park residence following Mr Shoker’s arrest.

In a press conference on Monday, police said they would allege the victim was approached by an unknown man on the driver side when he was shot.

Detective Acting Superintendent Jason Pietruszka alleged the man fired a number of shots before fleeing the scene in an Audi.

The male victim was able to get out of his car before running a short distance and collapsing on his neighbour’s lawn.

Police allege the 31-year-old man had links to Asian organised crime syndicates, including illicit drug activity.

His death is being investigated by local police detectives and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Homicide Squad Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty described the alleged shooting as “brazen” and “unacceptable”.

“It happened outside a family residence — he’s only 31 years of age,” he said.

“It’s shocking for the family and they’re still grieving and emotionally trying to manage this whole situation.”
