A blooming good start to Nannup Flower and Garden Festival’s 25-year celebration

The Nannup Flower and Garden Festival was off and blooming at the weekend, kick starting the 25-year milestone with style and an impressive line-up of sold out shows and workshops.

Headlining the weekend was TV personality Costa Georgiadis, who hosted a number of events, including the Celebrity Garden Tour, Animals in the Garden, Cooking with Costa and Guy and Costa the Garden Gnome.

They were among a series of other family friendly activities, which also included Everything Citrus with Deryn Thorpe, Flower Me Workshop with Fox and Rabbit and Lara Rose Bos.

Georgiadis said it was a thrill he was able to be part of the special 25th anniversary.

“Having gone to many events, an event that has a 25-year track record is a very valuable thing for a community,” he said.

“An event doesn’t reach 25 if it hasn’t adopted and adjusted and moved with the community and moved with the opportunities.

“There are so many people from far away and that’s what makes it incredibly significant for the region but also nationally.”

Saturday night saw the celebrations ramp up a notch in the warmth and shelter of Nannup Brewery at Evening with Costa & Friends, where the celebrity and the other weekend presenters could be found mingling and music by the Formidable Vegetable Sound System was pumping.

“The band was really special because it was taking the message out in a totally different Saturday night setting,” Georgiadis said.

“All of Charlie’s songs are about the message that the festival’s about and there was so much engagement, everyone is really into it, I was so blown away.

“The festival is really about story telling and all of the hosts are telling their story and each and every one of them is different but the nature themes are there for people to take away.”

Nannup Flower and Garden Festival chair Maggie Longmore said most people at Saturday night’s event were from outside of Nannup, which proved they were “doing something right”.

Renowned garden writer Deryn Thorpe, who helped host a number of the weekend’s events, said the people who came down to witness the event and be part of the festivities were the best part of the festival.

“It’s a lovely festival, it’s a really good feeling, it brings the community together,” she said.

The festival will continue over the next two weekends with several popular hosts including gardening guru Sabrina Hahn and horticulturalist and radio presenter Steve Wood.
