Apprentice wins top award
A Manjimup hairdresser has been named among the top apprentices in the region as part of an awards night last month.
Carla Kershaw was named the South Regional TAFE Service Industries Apprentice of the Year for her Certificate III in hairdressing.
Miss Kershaw was one of three apprentices to receive the award and was also in the top one per cent of all students at South Regional TAFE.
“It was an accomplishment I did without aiming for it,” she said. “I was doing what I wanted to do as a hairdresser, I wasn’t striving for awards.
“I always want to keep learning and not shy away from learning more.”
Miss Kershaw works at Empire House of Hair, where owner Pennii Longbottom said she was “very proud” of Miss Kershaw’s accomplishment.
“It’s certainly in recognition of her drive and determination for high-quality work and results,” Mrs Longbottom said.
“Myself, Peter and the team here at Empire are extremely proud of her.
“She came in every day, including her days off, to do models and bookwork, she was second to none.”
Miss Kershaw finishes her apprenticeship on April 21.
