Bags a novel idea

Bridgetown residents will have the opportunity to stock up on reading material, with the Bridgetown Library offering takeaway book packages.

Residents can request items from the library’s catalogue, which will then be delivered to them at the front of the library in a sealed bag and observing social distancing rules.

When the books are returned, they are taken out of circulation for 72 hours to be sanitised, to ensure they are safe to be borrowed again.

Bridgetown-Greenbushes shire president John Nicholas said the program was already being used by members.

“The response as far as I am aware has been quite positive,” Cr Nicholas said.

“It’s an opportunity for people to be able to at least grab a book and do some reading, whereas previously that wasn’t going to be the case under the very severe lockdown procedures that we saw in place.”
