A Bridgetown teenager has been selected to sail on the Leeuwin II next year.

Seven Eaton, 17, has received a $1700 grant from the Frank Ledger Charitable Trust to sail on the Leeuwin II for six days in January.

“I feel like it is something completely different to what I would normally do, especially being in a rural area,” Seven said.

I’ve heard it can be hard work, but it’s going to be awesome though.

The Leeuwin was launched in 1986 and was constructed in the style of ships built in the 1850s.

A requirement for his participation was to fundraise $500 for his adventure to demonstrate his commitment to the program.

To help meet his fundraising target, Seven has been offering private skateboarding lessons for locals and has started a GoFundMe page, and is seeking sponsorships from businesses.

His efforts have seen Seven receive support from five Bridgetown businesses.

“It is good to know the community has stepped up a bit and has helped out for regional youth,” his father Daniel Eaton said.
