Fair week for science
Manjimup Primary School celebrated Science Week by staging a science fair the whole school got involved in.
Teacher Alanna White, who helped organise the fair, said there had been 10 junior and 12 senior entries.
“It was an awesome way to link science with literacy, it all works together and this fair showed the students how, as well as being a great way to celebrate Science Week,” she said.
“It was something students of all ages could get involved in if they wanted too and there was a wide range of different projects entered.”
Principal Damian Lloyd said he had been impressed with the effort the students had put into their projects.
“The students had to do a presentation on the science behind their projects, it was not just a matter of building something, they had to be able to explain how it works,” he said.
“We have really focused on science here over the past year and our students have benefited from this a lot.”
Science fair winner Jack Jukic built a model digger, which he designed to move using hydraulics.
“I showed my Dad a video on YouTube about making these and then I told him I might have a crack at it,” Jack said.
“I used syringes for the hydraulics which makes the digger move, you use a bit of water in the syringes and a bit of colouring if you want so you can see it better.”
He said he had always been interested in science because loved working on lots of different projects and having fun.
Jack’s win at the fair was followed by Sebastian Walter in second place and Oscar Kordic awarded third.
The junior winners were Tayler Pearce, Leo Baker and Bella Ryan.
