Festival celebrates shire’s youth

The region’s youth descended on the Manjin Rec Plaza on Saturday for the SO MY FEST youth festival.

Highlights of the festival included a dunk tank, petting zoo, a 7m stunt jump and Skateboarding WA workshops.

Entertainment was provided by DJ Dave and the whole day was made possible by funding from the Department of Communities, the Manjimup Shire Council, Local Drug Action Group and the Road Safety Commission.

Other supporters of the event were the Northcliffe Family and Community Centre, Enable WA, Quinninup Community Association, the Manjimup Community Resource Centre and Act-Belong-Commit.

Manjimup shire president Paul Omodei said one third of the shire’s population was classified as “youth”, which was an age between 12 and 25.

“They are our future and this event is about engaging them, as well as acknowledging, appreciating and celebrating the valuable contribution they make in all of our communities,” he said.

It was the first time the event, usually held in different towns in the shire, was held at the Manjin Rec Plaza, which was of the Town Centre Revitalisation Project.
