GP Down South expo showcasing Manjimup community health services during Mental Health Week
Community health organisations from across Manjimup shire have gathered to showcase their range of services in recognition of Mental Health Week.
GP Down South Manjimup hosted the event that featured more than 10 organisations at the Manjimup Heritage Park, aiming to demonstrate the array of health services accessible to individuals living within Manjimup and surrounds.
Presentations and activities were conducted by several organisations, including BYA Youth Case Management, APM Employment Services, Manjimup Community Garden, Luxe Pilates, South West Community Alcohol and Drug Service, Manjimup Community Resource Centre’s Volunteer Opportunity Development Service, and Joblife Employment.
GP Down South program manager and Aboriginal health worker Miranda Kelleher said it was important for her to host an event like this during Mental Health Week as it was a topic close to her heart.
Ms Kelleher lost both her stepsister and best friend to suicide and wants to let people know that there are services and options available if they ever need help.
“Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem,” she said.
“There are other options out there for you.”
Ms Kelleher said she wished to communicate to people a holistic approach to mental health and felt that the expo was a good way of doing so.
She said she was already planning for next year’s event and hoped to continue to showcase the many wonderful organisations and services available to those living in the area.
