Manjimup Rovers climb South West Soccer Association division 1 men’s ladder with 4-1 win over Bunbury Dynamos

The Manjimup Rovers have continued their extraordinary rise up the South West Soccer Association division one men’s ladder with a win over the Bunbury Dynamos.

The Rovers have had a remarkable turnaround in recent weeks and won their fifth game in six outings at the weekend when they bested the Dynamos 4-1 at home.

Both sides lined up with 10 players each for the match during patchy weather, with Tom Anstey breaking the deadlock early to give the Rovers the first lead of the match.

Not long after, Jamie Nair threaded a pass from outside the box to Tack Burns, who quickly shot past the keeper to take the margin to 2-0, where it remained at half-time thanks to a series of good saves from Manjimup goalkeeper Craig Emslie.

After the break, the Rovers set about getting back the run of play and soon scored again, with another Burns goal making it 3-0.

The Dynamos made their way back into the game again to get the score to 3-1 as the Rovers began to tire.

With the tension rising, Cak Rashid slip a through ball to Burns, who scored again to complete his hat-trick and ice the game.

Manjimup are now in fifth place on the ladder, but are just one win behind the second-placed Eaton-Dardanup.

Sunday’s win over Bunbury continues a stunning turnaround for Manjimup, who won just one of their first six games to start the season.

The Rovers will be tested for the rest of the month as they are set to face Eaton-Dardanup away from home two weekends in a row on July 17 and 24, before hosting the ladder-leading Harvey Two on July 31.

To finish the season, Manjimup will host the third-placed Dalyellup, and the cellar-dwelling Australind twice, to finish the year.
