Nannup Flower and Garden Festival draws 10,000 over three weeks of family-friendly fun
The Nannup Flower and Garden Festival drew to a close on Sunday after three weeks of open gardens, family-friendly events and activities, good food and a wonderful array of local products.
The town came alive over three weeks with the annual festival drawing in a crowd of up to 10,000 people, with headliners including celebrity gardening experts Costa Georgiadis and Sabrina Hahn.
The final weekend featured a variety of events, including Make Your Own Fairy Garden, Ukrainian Potato Workshop with Volodymyr and Regina Razumovskaya, Wildflowers of the Forest with Rod Cary, The Forever Project with Chris Ferreira, Wicking Beds Their Way with Denise and Lawrie Green, and Chatting Gardening with Steve Wood.
Festival co-ordinator Jo O’Dea said it came as no surprise that the tulips were the real stars of the show followed closely by headliners Georgiadis and Hahn.
“The surveys are already showing that the best part about it is that it is a country festival, they love the tulips and of course, Costa and Sabrina were great ambassadors,” she said.
Ms O’Dea said the surveys also identified that the new Gather A Floral Exhibition in the Town Hall, crafted and delivered by botanical stylist from Bridgetown Lara Rose Bos, was noted as one of the best parts of the festival.
“Seeing the people power behind the event is inspiring,” Ms O’Dea said.
“Ninety percent of the people involved are volunteers and the 25th anniversary has really shown that the people power to attract up to 10,000 people to Nannup is incredible.”
Ms O’Dea said close to 30 percent of people in attendance were from Perth metro and outer-metro areas, while another 10 percent of people were from outside the South West.
Plans are already in progress for the 26th anniversary of the Nannup Flower and Garden festival with the festival organisers proudly announcing the festival will be back for 2023.
