The new principal at Kearnan College is keen to use her time to promote the positive aspects of the school.

Carol Geurts has come from 12 years in Broome and will be at the school for the term while the position is advertised.

“I’m not here to sit on my hands,” she said. “I am here to support the teachers and the students.”

In 2020, Mrs Geurts, pictured, said the college welcomed eight new staff and she was looking forward to continuing to foster the partnership with the Parish and Father Edwin Ocho.

Last year was a good year for student education, with a 100 per cent completion for students finishing Certificate II courses in Year 10 to 12. Kearnan had a 91 per cent WACE graduation and a 100 per cent school graduation.

A total of 63 per cent of students completed four or more Year 12 ATAR subjects and the median ATAR of students who applied for university was 80.30.

Mrs Geurts has been going into the school prior to the term beginning to get her head around the layout and processes.
