Project creates a town square showpiece

It is time to raise the roof in celebration of the completion of Manjimup’s Brockman Street outdoor cover.

After a lengthy delay, the final section of the roof was completed two weeks ago.

Manjimup shire president Paul Omodei said it was fantastic to see the project completed, with a few finishing touches needed.

“The Brockman Street precinct in now ready for an official opening and we look forward to celebrating this with local contractors and the community when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted,” he said.

Delays in the project were caused by issues such as fire restrictions and the location of water mains.

A total of 31 contractors and sub-contractors were used during the project and local contractors were used wherever possible. “We now have before us a covered, all-weather, multi-purpose town square that we hope will become a busy food and beverage precinct and will be utilised for events and markets,” Cr Omodei said.

“We thank the community and particularly the business owners in Brockman Street for their patience over this time.”

Karamfiles Builders was responsible for digging footings for the roof frames in January, followed by the installation of the frames.

Franzine Karamfiles said the business was proud to partner with the shire to complete the Brockman Street roof as the primary contractor.

“Despite the challenges experienced during the course of the project we hope that the retailers and the local community will enjoy the new roof over Brockman Street,” she said.
