Remembrance Day in Manjimup set to honour Australia’s fallen heroes once again
Manjimup RSL members are putting the final preparations in for the Remembrance Day ceremony.
Like previous years, the ceremony will be held at Manjimup War Memorial and will begin at 10:45am on Monday.
There will be a short ceremony with words from an RSL representative and Manjimup Shire president Donelle Buegge.
The service will be followed by snacks and refreshments back at the Manjimup RSL hall for those who attended the event.
Manjimup RSL secretary Ted Middleton said the day allowed people to remember to value sacrifices made by those in war.
“If you lose that spirit of remembrance, you completely forget how you gained the freedom and the way of life that we have today,” he said.
“It didn’t come without a cost, freedom isn’t free, it’s bought and paid for with the blood of soldiers, sailors and airmen and that’s an important thing to remember.
“It should never, ever be forgotten.”
Originally held on 11am on November 11 to mark the end of World War I, the day signifies a time to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.
While not as big as ANZAC Day ceremonies, the event is regularly attended by schools and other community members wanting to pay their respects.
Members of the Manjimup RSL will also be fundraising on Friday by selling poppies outside the Manjimup newsagency.
