Months of preparation will come to fruition this Saturday for the annual Warren District Agricultural Show.

Organisers have been working hard to prepare a fun and engaging event for people of all ages to enjoy.

This year will see a greater focus on the agriculture aspect of the show, with a big display from WA Potatoes, in addition to more emphasis on cattle judging, showjumping and cooking and composting workshops.

“Shows were traditionally a chance to meet up once a year with your mates, to have a chat or a friendly competition to see who had the best stock or produce for that season,” Warren District Agricultural Society president Aimee Bendotti said.

“We try very hard to offer something that will appeal to every person within the community, especially relating to the agricultural theme.

“We have all the favourites, the poultry pavilion, cattle judging, showjumping, show horses, equestrian breed, WA Alpacas, pet show, Farm and Garden Zone and, of course, plenty of exhibits and competitions in the Exhibition Hall.

Ms Bendotti encouraged people to get out throughout the grounds on Saturday to check out all the competitions and displays that people had entered.

The potatoes focus was chosen because they had been a primary industry in the region for more than 90 years.

“From farming just a few hectares of potatoes that needed to be harvested by hand, to today, being harvested by machines with an array of markets, including internationally,” Ms Bendotti said.

“WA is the only State in Australia to get its potatoes freshly delivered 365 days of the year.

“So why not thank our growers and the humble potato for the big part they play in our great area and around the State by recognising and celebrating the potato industry at our 2020 show.”

Other highlights at weekend’s show will include sideshow alley, a kite workshop, log chops, live music, and finally, fireworks from 8pm.
