Smoke from a rubbish fire at the Narrogin Refuse Site near White Road and Clayton Road triggered a 48-hour hazmat warning before being controlled on Friday.

The fire was reported to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services on Wednesday at 4.56am and the warning was issued at 7.44am.

The smoke was moving in a westerly direction, impacting people in the area bound by Cooraminning Road to the west, Williams Kondinin Road to the south, Narrakine Road to the east and Fleay Road to the north in parts of Narrogin, Dumberning and Minigin.

A crew from Narrogin Bush Fire Brigade and Minigin Bush Fire Brigade used machinery to separate the rubbish into smaller piles to extinguish the blaze more easily.

The fire was suppressed on Friday at 8.43am using earth mineral equipment and the fire brigade crews handed the site over to the land owner to monitor.

The hazmat warning was removed by 6pm later that evening as smoke no longer impacted the patrons.
