A 2.5m tiger shark has been spotted in shallow waters off the coast Fremantle.

The shark was spotted lurking just 20m offshore from Port Beach, just after 6pm tonight.

The sighting comes a week after spear-fisherman Jackson Howson was attacked by a bull shark in Coral Bay.

Mr Howson, 27, was with his girlfriend when he fought off what is believed to be a 2.5 metre bull shark 1km offshore at Sandy Point.

He recalled the harrowing moment the predator circled him and then attacked.

“You don’t feel the pain as much when it’s happening. I was hoping it wasn’t too bad,” Mr Howson told 7NEWS.

The couple then had to frantically swam 100m back to the safety of their boat.

Mr Howson’s partner — a paramedic in training — applied first aid with a makeshift-towel tourniquet, while also navigating the boat 35km back to shore.

The fisherman was airlifted to Perth by the Royal Flying Doctor Service for emergency treatment on his calf and finger.
