Donnybrook Historical Society rewarded with $500 cheque for assisting local Shire in Tidy Towns nomination

A South West community group with a passion for preserving history has been rewarded for their efforts in helping the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup in developing an award-winning precinct. The Donnybrook Historical Society was recently presented with a $500 cheque from the Shire for their help in putting together the Goods Shed and Station Square precinct. The precinct redevelopment, which included the Donnybrook Goods Shed Heritage Interpretative Centre, earned the Shire the General Appearance award during the Keep Australia Beautiful Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards last year. As part of the award, the Shire received $500 in prize money, which was happily donated to the Historical Society for their “invaluable assistance, advice and artefacts for the precinct”. Donnybrook-Balingup Shire president Leanne Wringe said the “fabric of our Shire is made up of community groups”. “They’re what keep our towns alive, diverse and thriving,” she said. “The Donnybrook Historical Society played a major role in advising the Shire on the development of this wonderful site. “We’re excited to work with them on future asset rehabilitation projects that are historically sensitive, and hope this donation symbolises our appreciation of their ongoing dedication and hard work.”
