Flipping good time for charitable cause
Pancakes and charity came together at Kearnan College yesterday as part of Shrove Tuesday celebrations.
Shrove Tuesday is a day on the Catholic calendar and marks the day before Ash Wednesday.
Traditionally, Ash Wednesday marked six weeks of fasting before Easter, and Shrove Tuesday was used as a time for a feast, including pancakes, using perishable ingredients. Kearnan College community members celebrated Shrove Tuesday with a pancake stall and a coffee cart.
Principal Carol Geurts said all the money raised from the stall was going to Caritas, a charitable organisation
“This kicks off six weeks of fundraising activities,” she said.
Students and staff involved with the pancake stall were setting up from 7.30am yesterday.
The pancake mix bottles used yesterday will also be recycled to sell for worm meal and for crafts in the junior school.
About 10 students from the junior school and 10 from the senior school were involved in making the pancakes, while student leaders did the serving.
