Manjimup has officially become a part of the nation’s longest electric highway with new EV station now open

Manjimup has officially become a part of the nation’s longest electric highway with a new electric vehicle charging station in the town centre now open. The new EV charging station — delivered by Synergy in partnership with the Shire of Manjimup — is one of the first stations on the Western Australian EV Network since it officially opened on May 19. The station will allow two EVs to charge simultaneously, with up to 150 kilowatts available allowing drivers to top up their EVs in as little as 20 minutes. A back-up charger is also available at the Johnsons Crescent site, however, drivers will require an EV charging cable to use it. Synergy chief executive David Fyfe said the Manjimup EV charger would encourage the uptake of electric vehicles in regional areas and support EV owners to travel throughout WA. “This charger will be part of the WA EV Network’s South-West corridor — with chargers now operating in Albany and Williams and another charger under construction in Walpole,” Mr Fyfe said. “At Synergy we’re driving the uptake of electric vehicles, to support WA’s road to net zero emissions by 2050.” The station — endorsed by the Shire of Manjimup in November, alongside a second charging station in Walpole — will make up one out of 49 locations in the WA EV Network stretching more than 7000km from Kununurra to Esperance. In all, 98 charging stations across the locations will be available averaging less than 200km apart. The $21 million WA EV Network is part of the State Government’s State Electric Vehicle Action Plan for Western Australia.
