Manjimup Netball Association: Independents defeat Globetrotters in a close battle

Independents disposed of Globetrotters by two goals (37-35) to win a thriller in their senior women’s (Pool 2) Manjimup Netball Association clash last Monday.

Independents put the ball through the ring first, but an immediate response from Globetrotters had both teams going goal-for-goal in a fast paced first quarter, with Independents up 9-7 by the whistle.

They managed to stretch their two-goal lead out to five during the second term (19-14), with a dominant mid-court effort from Millie Charlton, Chloe Cybula and Tammy Gibellini.

The third quarter saw an immediate increase in pace by Globetrotters, who worked hard to reduce the deficit to two goals.

However, Independents managed to match their pace towards the end of the quarter and stretched their lead back out to four goals (27-23).

Despite managing to put themselves in front with three minutes to go, Globetrotters could not shutdown Independents, with the team notching their first win of the season 37-35.

In the other Pool 2 game, Cosmos defeated Tigers 35-28, while in Pool 1 Magic pipped Vixens 34-33 and Magpies defeated SWE 66-52.
