MNA: Independents total Tigers in round 13 by whopping 25 points
Independents secured their eighth win of the Manjimup netball season on Monday night, downing Tigers 56-31.
Setting the speed early of the game, the Independents started hard and fast, leaving the Tigers scrambling to match pace with one player down.
Despite an impressive midcourt effort by the Tigers, the Independents won the first quarter, 11-5.
The Independents’ Chloe Cybula was back as goal shooter this week, again proving her skills in the position, scoring the bulk of the goals for her team.
The Tigers made no position changes going into the second quarter. However, this did not work to their advantage, finding themselves down 12 points down going into the second half.
A notable performance was made by the Tigers’ Jennifer Crawley who worked exceptionally hard as centre to make up for the lack of player in midcourt through the first half.
Deciding to switch star defender Justine Lawrence to goal attack did wonders for Tigers’ score. However, this left a gap in defence, allowing the Independents to take advantage in their own attacking space.
The Independents managed to extend their lead to 19 point at the end of the third quarter, 41-22.
The fourth quarter played out much the same as the third, with the Independents continuing to dominate, extending the final margin to 25.
Also in pool 2, Cosmos defeated Globetrotters 49-30.
In pool 1, Magpies suffered their first loss of the season against Magic 39-50, while South West Electrics defeated Vixens 54-42.
Next round fixtures:
Monday senior women pool 1: Magic v SWE (6pm), Magic v Vixens (6pm).
Monday senior women pool 2: Globetrotters v Independents (7.15pm), Cosmos v Tigers (7.15pm).
