Serious crash update: Man suffers fractured ribs after rolling car and crashing into tree in SW last week

A man rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in the early hours of the morning on July 17 by the RAC rescue helicopter after a horror crash in the South West is believed to be in a stable condition. Police said the man in his 50s suffered serious injuries after the Nissan Patrol he was driving rolled several times and crashed into a tree about 3.45am, on McCorkindale Road in Kangaroo Gully, near Bridgetown. He was flown to Royal Perth Hospital and arrived about 7am. He was in a stable condition later on Monday. Bridgetown Sergeant Dave White said despite concerns of spinal damage the latest update to Police from the hospital — provided on Wednesday last week — was the man was stable, suffering only fractured ribs. “We were led to believe he wasn’t going to be in the hospital long,” he said. “We will be chatting with him when he returns home to get his version of events.” Sgt White said he does not hold concerns for the safety of McCorkindale Road nor other roads in the area despite two further car incidents that occurred last week, including one near Boyup Brook and another near Winnejup. “Thousands drive those roads every day,” he said. “If you drive to the conditions then there should be no issues. “These accidents are all driver error — falling asleep at the wheel or lack of attention to detail.”
