WBCA 2022: Full day of cricket for the second round of T20 finals - Boyup Brook defeat Northcliffe
Boyup Brook placed second on the ladder to secure themselves a place in the Warren Blackwood Cricket Association’s first ever T20 grand final next week at Collier Street Sporting Complex.
Northcliffe chose to bat first but were quickly under the pump from experienced Jacob Maw (2-7) and Tristan Mead (2-11).
Maw and Mead bowled with supreme accuracy and swing that troubled both Northcliffe openers Wayne Smeathers (4) and Jason Treasure (7) who struggled to get any fluency going.
Once the first wicket fell it was a continuous flow which stopped Northcliffe from getting any semblance of a defendable score, ending on a mere 34 runs.
The Northcliffe youngsters — all 15 or under — including Killian Belton, Jaymon and Harper MacDonald and Kaelum and Rocco Pipicelli showed fight but were no match for a seasoned Boyup Brook attack.
Declan Holland finished off the Northcliffe’s innings with 3-4 off three overs.
With a target of only 35, Boyup Brook went into their innings with extreme confidence and it was never going to be a tough task, with Scott Tweedie scoring 26 alone.
There was a faint glimmer of hope for Northcliffe when Luke Chambers (3) was caught and bowled by Treasure (2-9 off three overs) however, it was short lived when Tweedie went out to bat.
Boyup Brook cruised to victory not long later with Miller (bowled out for a duck by Treasure) and Carroll both making appearances.
