WWHA: B-grade Cougars secure grand final place after defeating Violet Femmes

Cougars secured a place in the B-grade women’s hockey grand final after defeating Violet Femmes 2-0 at the weekend.

Charlotte Cumming and Olivia Waugh scored the two goals that solidified Cougars’ top of the ladder placing, while Katie Crosby and Jeanette Harris demonstrated most valuable player performances.

Violet Femmes’ Jodie Schilders also played an exceptional game of hockey.

Also in B-grade, Nationals defeated Robins 3-0, with Kodie Brotherton scoring two and Sydney Gibellini scoring the third.

Gibellini and Ella Drake were listed as match MVPs, alongside Robins’ Bianca Steyn.

In A-grade, Violet Femmes defeated Cougars 2-1 after scoring the winning goal from a penalty corner played out at the end of full-time.

The win has placed Violet Femmes securely on top of the ladder, sending them straight through to the grand final.

Match MVPs were Violet Femmes’ Jenae Cawley and Elcin Cook and Cougars’ Emily Millar.

Cawley and Cook both scored goals, while Hannah Gibson scored for Cougars.

Also in A-grade, Robins forfeited to Nationals.

Preliminary final teams will be decided for both grades next week during the final round of the Warren Women’s Hockey Association Season.

Saturday, August 19

A-grade: Violet Femmes v Nationals (2pm) and Cougars v Robins (3.30pm).

B-grade: Violet Femmes v Nationals (12.30pm) and Cougars v Robins (12.30pm).
