Bridgetown High School P&C raises more than $6000 after being matched by Racing WA for school improvements

Students and parents of Bridgetown High School managed to raise more than $3000 for their P&C Association — which was then matched by Racing WA — during the Bridgetown Cup. The school P&C raised $3105 for artwork, sensory equipment and improvements at the school by operating the canteen and offering face paintings during the March 24 event. They also collected recyclable containers for Containers for Change to add to their efforts. Their funds were then matched by Racing WA through the Race Club Community Program, bringing the total amount raised to $6210. Bridgetown Harness Racing Club secretary Dariel Hodgins said she was grateful for the opportunity to support a local cause and was happy for the money to go back into the community. “The Race Club Community Program is a great initiative that allows community groups to earn extra income that goes back into supporting our local economy and volunteer groups,” she said. “In such a small community, fundraising can be challenging and to have the opportunity to double that money is very much appreciated by the community groups involved. “The extra money makes a great difference to these groups and it also encourages them to offer support again to us next year.” Racing and Wagering WA chief executive Ian Edwards said the positive effects of the fundraising program had been extensive for community groups and commended the Bridgetown Harness Racing Club for their chosen cause. “Race clubs play an important role in their communities — both economically and socially — with partnerships like this a prime example of the strong connection race clubs have with their communities,” he said. “Bridgetown Harness Racing Club chose a worthy cause for their fundraising and we are pleased to match their efforts. “Racing WA is committed to making a positive contribution to our State. The Race Club Community Program allows clubs to guide our giving by proposing a local group or charity they believe deserves support and we match the funds raised on special race days.”
