Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre calling on community to help year’s biggest beach clean-up

The South West community is being called into action by one of Bunbury’s premier tourist organisations hoping to clean-up Bunbury beaches at the weekend.

Bunbury’s Dolphin Discovery Centre has partnered with Tangaroa Blue for its 20th WA Beach Clean-up anniversary, with hopes to make this the biggest event yet.

The team is hoping to get as many volunteers as possible to meet at the DDC on October 12 from 8am where they will be split into teams to cover Koombana Bay, Back Beach and Turkey Point for the clean-up.

Volunteers will meet back at the DDC after the clean-up for a sausage sizzle and to audit the rubbish found.

Speaking with the Times, DDC communications manager Axel Grossmann said the event was one of the best ways to find wildlife in need of rescue like hatchling turtles.

The DDC’s first turtle of the season Squirtle was found when a group of students conducted a clean-up at Binningup Beach in June.

In order to know how many hands they will have on the beaches, the DDC is calling for volunteers to register for this weekend.
