Manjimup vineyard Peos Estate crowned top drop at Southern Forests and Valleys Wine Show 2022 winners
Manjimup boutique winery Peos Estate has been crowned the top drop at the 2022 Southern Forests and Valleys Wine Show for one of their flagship red varietals.
The vineyard’s 2020 vintage Four Aces Cabernet Sauvignon won wine of the show at the awards celebration held at Tall Timbers Brewery on Friday night.
The family-run estate also won best red wine, and most successful exhibitor among the 108 entries from more than 20 wineries from across the region.
Peos Estate vigneron Vic Peos said he was extremely proud of how well they had done at the awards night, particularly in being awarded wine of the show.
“It is rare that a red wine wins wine of the show and to win with a cabernet sauvignon is unbelievable,” he said.
“Fifteen years ago we were told to take the pinot and cabernet vines out — and now here we are.”
Mr Peos said the show was the pinnacle event of the year and being selected as the winner was acknowledgement of their hard work over a tough few years.
Silkwood Wines was awarded best white wine with their 2022 Sauvignon Blanc.
Several other exhibitors walked away with class awards, including Westbound for their 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and 2022 Rose, Pemberley with their 2022 Prosecco and 2017 Sparkling Chardonnay/Pinot Noir, Ferngrove with their 2022 Riesling and 2021 Malbec, Truffle Hill Wines with their 2020 Cane Cut Riesling, Whimwood Estate with their Shiraz, and St John Wines with their 2021 Shiraz Tempranillo.
Chief Judge and senior winemaker at Houghton Wines, Courtney Treacher, said it was “a pleasure” to judge this year’s awards.
“It’s fantastic to be able to play a part in showcasing the wine producers,” she said.
Ms Treacher said it was also incredible to judge alongside an all-female panel who are all at the top of their game.
“It’s always a pleasure to be a part of an event like this.”
