Old art centre in Pemberton has cameras installed and police report put forward after vandalism incident

A historic building in Pemberton has been damaged in an apparent act of vandalism, allegedly posted on social media. It is alleged that rocks were thrown through the windows at the old art centre building near the Pemberton Visitor Centre and Community Resource Centre, leaving large holes and cracks. Shire of Manjimup chief executive Brian Robinson said the incident came to his attention through social media posts, which he said showed people causing damage to the building. “We found footage of the perpetrators throwing rocks and putting their fists through the windows,” he said. “They were dumb enough to post on to social media, which brought it to our attention.” He said the incident was a “disappointment” and said deterrents, including security cameras were put into place to prevent future acts of vandalism and damage to the building, while police investigate the incident. “We are extremely disappointed in the act of damaging public property, a police report has been made, and cameras have been installed to avoid further incidents, which will be recorded by our systems.”
