Shire of Dardanup to seek $372,000 from DLGSC grant program for first stage of Burekup Pavilion project

A South West council is set to put in a big financial request to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries to get a major community project off the ground. The Shire of Dardanup voted at last month’s meeting to put in an application to the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund for more than $372,000 for stage one of the Burekup Pavilion project. If successful, the grant would cover half the expected $744,000 cost of the first stage, which could include public toilets, changerooms, a cleaner’s room and storage. Shire president Tyrrell Gardiner said it was unclear if the council would be successful in its application at this stage. “Generally we have been fortunate enough to receive these grants previously and I think we’ve acquitted them well, so we’ve got a good history there,” he said. “This is a necessary part of getting these facilities up and running.” Cr Gardiner said the council would also be looking at other sources of funding for the project. The pavilion is part of a broader set of wish list projects for the shire around Burekup Oval, including a new skatepark and playground.
