Residents told to avoid the area, warning remains as Esperance fire warning downgraded to watch and act

An out-of-control blaze which sparked an emergency warning in parts of Esperance has been downgraded to watch and act but residents are being told to remain away from the area.

Those in Bandy Creek and Castletown bounded by Daw Drive, Lyon Parade, Burton Road, Wiseman Street and Westmacott Street are still in danger and need to act immediately to survive.

According to DFES, if you have left the area it is unsafe to return, if you remained in the area you should stay alert and monitor your surroundings as conditions could change.

For those who are actively defending their property, they should continue to patrol and put out spot fires.

There is still a threat to lives and homes.

The fire is not yet controlled or contained and is moving west.

The fire was first called in to 000 as a fire in bushland near the intersection of Daw Drive and Goldfields Road just after 10am on Wednesday morning.

At least 10 fire crews were attending the blaze by 11am.
