Perth weather: Cooler temperatures on the way after scorching 40C day on Wednesday
Perth is in for some cooler days ahead after receiving an absolute baking earlier in the week.
However, some hot weather is looming and looks likely to return mid way through next week.
Meteorologist Jessica Lingard said there were a “couple of light showers” in Perth’s north on Friday along with a few rumbles of thunder.
“They started on the coast near Ocean Reef around 10am this morning, and moved in a southeasterly direction through northern and eastern suburbs,” she said.
“0.4mm of rainfall was reported in the Bickley rain gauge.”
The rest of Friday looks likely to experience a shower or two and the chance of a thunderstorm.
A weak cold front will brush WA’s southwest early on Sunday, but there’s only a slight chance of rainfall reaching Perth, Lingard added.
“The southern suburbs may collect 0-0.4mm during the morning on Sunday while the afternoon looks clear,” she said.
“Even the south coast of WA will only see 1-2mm of rainfall from this system, most likely overnight Saturday into Sunday and early Sunday morning.”
Lingard mentioned the average December maximum for Perth so far is 30.3C, about 0.8C above the long term average.
“We had a much warmer start to the month in December of 2021 however (first 12 days average maximum temperature of 30.6C),” Lingard said.
“The average minimum temperature so far is 18.0C, which is 1.5C above the long term average.
“December 2019 had a warmer start though with an average overnight temperature of 18.3C.”
