Basil Zempilas 10 things: Premier Roger Cook is treating us like mugs
- We live in an energy rich State with huge budget surpluses and the best Premier Roger Cook can offer up in regard to power outages is “they are part and parcel” of a large energy network. He’s treating us like mugs. And when people ask, what would the Liberals do differently, I’m proud to say keep Collie energy in the system for longer and build more gas power generation (the resource we have in abundance) to lower power bills and keep the lights on. The Libs have a plan, Labor has ideology and excuses.
- In this age of email, Premier Cook thinks writing letters is affirmative action. How out of touch can you be? Careful how you say this, but a stupid stunt is a stupid stunt, and when West Aussie families are genuinely hurting, the Premier insults them with this pathetic gimmick. If the Premier really wants to do something about inflation he should stand up to Rita Saffioti’s out of control spending.
- Just on that, the audacity of this mob; one week it’s “here’s $220 million of Government spending for a race track,” the next it’s “enough is enough RBA, inflation is under control.” They do know, don’t they, their spending is one of the reasons why inflation has remained so high?
- And ask yourself this, do you reckon there’s any chance Mark McGowan would have let Rita get away with that spend, in these times, on that project? No way. Little wonder he insisted on being treasurer as well.
- Just in case there’s anyone holding out hope Roger’s letter-writing could deliver a result, here’s his record since he became Premier; letter to King Charles inviting him to Perth — fail; letter to The Rock inviting him to Perth for the World Wrestling — fail; letter to Peter V’Landys asking for an NRL team for Perth — fail. He might be the worst letter writer in history.
- Anyone seen one of those leave forms the Premier’s chief of staff reckons he’s filled out?
- By any measure, it’s been a volcanic start second time around from Donald Trump. It feels like REM’s It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine) was written for this moment.
- The news of the death of the five-year-old boy, crushed after a parking meter fell on him at a Bunbury museum, was incredibly difficult to read. How shocking. How unfair. How could this happen? My most profound condolences to the family. Rest in peace little man.
- Sunday’s Australia Day in the City of Perth will be the biggest January 26 event of the Langley Park era. This year; more fireworks, more people and more patriotism than we’ve seen since the shift of venue back in 2023.
- In the crowd will be Mayor Francesco Menna and his delegation from Vasto City in Italy. The mayor is here to honour 35 years of the treasured Vasto-Perth sister city relationship.
