WA Nationals, Liberal and Labor candidates have election signs taken down, vandalised across South Perth

Election signs have been damaged and vandalised in the battle to win votes in the South Perth electorate. Signs for WA Nationals candidate Jeremy Miles have been ripped down and signs for Liberals candidate Bronwyn Waugh and Labor candidate Geoff Baker have been vandalised. “We’ve had at least 50 per cent of our signs vandalised or removed,” Mr Baker said. The words “class traitor” and drawings of male anatomy seemed to be a common choice for vandals of Ms Waugh’s signs. In an unusual move, Ms Waugh posted a video online of her putting back up Mr Miles’ signage. Mr Miles thanked Ms Waugh for her actions. “All South Perth candidates, from all parties, acknowledged and agreed to help each other out during this election,” he said. Ms Waugh said she was not shocked at the signs being defaced but at people being “ignorant” of democracy. “I believe in the freedom of political communication, that’s the beauty of living in a democracy that we have, so I’m happy to help out a fellow candidate when their signs get ripped down — I would do it for anyone,” she said. “Having graduated high school in Mt Barker, I’m no class traitor — I’ve worked hard and now want to use my skills in Parliament for the benefit of the South Perth electorate.”
