Premier Roger Cook briefed on emergency search and rescue underway off Rottnest Island after seaplane crash

Premier Roger Cook is being briefed on the search and rescue effort that is under way after a seaplane crashed into the ocean off Rottnest Island. At least three people have been seriously injured, with a fourth person able to walk to a rescue helicopter. Police said seven people were on board at the time of the crash. “The images we are seeing of an emergency unfolding off Rottnest Island are deeply concerning,” Mr Cook said on X. “My thoughts are with all those affected, and I want to thank our first responders who are attending to the crash site. I am being briefed on the situation, and I will provide an update as more information becomes available.” The seaplane was taking off from the popular holiday island when it went down about 4pm on Tuesday. Police said it appeared to hit Phillip Rock, between Thomson Bay and Kingston Reef.
