AFL: Richmond spearhead Tom Lynch hit with one-match suspension for high bump

Richmond spearhead Tom Lynch has been slapped with a one-match ban for his high bump on Carlton ruck Tom De Koning.
The key forward is set to miss the Tigers’ round-two clash with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval next Saturday unless Richmond successfully appeal his rough conduct charge.
Lynch, 32, was cited for a contest in the second quarter of Thursday night’s brilliant 13-point upset win at the MCG.
De Koning was firing off a handball deep in defence when Lynch collected him in the jaw with his shoulder.
The incident was assessed as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.
Richmond could take the case to the AFL tribunal, given they would sorely miss Lynch, who was restricted to just eight games across 2023 and 2024 through foot and hamstring injuries, against the Power.
The Tigers could potentially argue that Blues defender Jacob Weitering pushed Lynch into De Koning.
Hawthorn great Jason Dunstall said it would be “disappointing” for Lynch to be suspended.
“Surely there are mitigating circumstances - the fact that Weitering’s pushed him into him,” Dunstall said on Fox Footy.
“He then has to protect himself because he’s being pushed into him and contact is inevitable.”
Blues midfielder Adam Cerra can accept a $3125 fine for his third offence of making careless contact with an umpire.
