Thunder halt winning start of Daniels' Hawks in NBA

NBA powerhouses Oklahoma City Thunder have put an abrupt end to the winning season start made by Dyson Daniels' Atlanta Hawks.

Having topped the Western Conference last season, the Thunder moved to 3-0 in the new campaign with a thumping 128-104 win over the Hawks on Sunday (Monday AEDT).

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 35 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, centre Chet Holmgren had 25 points, nine rebounds and six blocks, and Jalen Williams added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Thunder.

Atlanta led 92-91 in the fourth quarter before Oklahoma went on a 13-0 run, including six points from Gilgeous-Alexander.

Trae Young had 24 points and eight assists for the Hawks, who dropped to 2-1 with the loss.

Young only attempted 14 shots while being harassed by Oklahoma's guards, having scored at least 30 points and 10 assists in each of his first two games.

Australian guard Daniels has enjoyed a bright start to the season, scoring 33 points across the Hawks' opening two wins, but he was held to seven points in 34 minutes while also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing two assists.

While Daniels and the Hawks copped their first loss, fellow Australian Ben Simmons and the Brooklyn Nets got their first win, defeating the Milwaukee Bucks 115-102.

Noted defender Simmons contributed only two of those 115 points, and took just three shots from the field in his 24 minutes as starter, while adding six assists and six rebounds.

Cam Thomas led the Nets with 32 points, while Dennis Schroder added 29.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Bucks, who have dropped two straight games after winning their opener and remain without injured star Khris Middleton.

Elsewhere, the Philadelphia 76ers got their first win, beating the Indiana Pacers 118-114, Portland beat New Orleans 125-103, and the LA Clippers downed Golden State 112-104.
