Perth Football League: Kingsway defeat Trinity-Aquinas to win second A-Grade premiership in four years

Kingsway are Perth Football League A-Grade premiers for the second time in four years. The Roos handed a second dose of grand final heartache to minor premiers Trinity-Aquinas in a 13.6 (84) to 8.7 (55) victory at Pentanet Stadium on Saturday. Jaxon McGowan rounded out a remarkable season, where he won the league’s best-and-fairest award, by winning the BJ Giles Medal for best-on-ground in the decider. They narrowed the margin to 10 points at the final change, but allowed their opponents to kick away to their 29-point victory. It comes 12 months after a remarkable final term from Curtin-University toppled TAs and denied them a third premiership. Former Subiaco forward Kyle Halligan booted three goals from Kingsway, while State skipper Rowan Brookes, Braydn Furmark and Blake Morris kicked two each. Ex-Perth players Haydn Busher and Michael Sinclair kicked three each for the Boomers. Kingsway’s season was spearheaded by former Subiaco gun McGowan and a string of recruits from the powerhouse WAFL club. The premiership is the second in the club’s history. University won the A Reserves flag, holding Curtin University-Wesley to just three goals in a 45-point thumping. Uni’s Patrick Donovan was named best-on-ground. The Students also won the Phil Scott Colts premiership, beating North Beach 7.9 (51) to 5.2 (32).
