Travis Head's magnificent 152 against India at the Gabba has catapulted the Australian to fourth spot in the latest global batting rankings released by the ICC.

The in-form left-hander, who has been Australia's mainstay in the Border-Gavaskar series, has leapfrogged India's Yashasvi Jaiswal in the list headed by Englishman Joe Root.

Veteran Steve Smith is back in the top 10 after scoring 101 in the first innings of the third Test, while Alex Carey's scores of 70 and 20 not out lifted him 11 slots to 29th position.

India's bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah attained the joint-highest rating points ever achieved by a Test bowler from his country after another excellent performance in the third Test.

Bumrah, who finished with a match-haul of 9-for 94, added 14 points to his tally and went up to 904 rating points, which the recently retired Ravichandran Ashwin had reached in December 2016 after the fourth Test against England in Mumbai in December 2016.

Bumrah's 21 wickets in the series so far have helped him increase his lead at the top of the bowling rankings to 48 rating points.

Former top-ranked bowlers Kagiso Rabada (856) and Josh Hazlewood (852) are second and third on the list, with the Australian now ruled out for the remainder of the series against India.
