A Fremantle fan is facing the prospect of a substantial penalty after storming the field in the aftermath of the Dockers’ 50-point win over Melbourne at Optus Stadium.

The final siren had only just finished blaring when the man hurdled the fence and made his way onto the turf as Freo celebrated their victory over the Demons.

The scarf-waving Dockers fan did well to avoid a pair of security guards who chased him in vain initially, before being felled by a substantial tackle.

It is not the first time a fan has dared to jump the fence at Optus Stadium, despite hefty penalties in place for fans who enter the field of play at any point on game-day.

In April last year, another pitch invader was taken from the ground after he made it to the middle of the oval during the fourth quarter of the Dockers’ loss to Western Bulldogs.

Previous seasons at the height of COVID-19 saw fans fined substantially for not just running onto the oval, but also breaching the quarantine zone set up for the game.

The standard penalty for pitch invaders at Optus Stadium is a fine of up to $12,000.
