Melbourne Cup Recap: Knight’s Choice winner in stunning photo finish at Flemington
It’s the race that stops a nation!
Stay across all the news and colour around today’s Melbourne Cup, after Knight’s Choice took out the race in spectacular fashion.
And that’s where we’ll leave you
There are still plenty of races happening locally but for now will bid farewell to another Melbourne Cup day.
I think it will be a long time before another rank outsider wins again but what a fantastic ride for Robbie Nolan and what a great story to go with it.
Until next time goodby for now.
The wizard does it again
Fresh off his first win Pike doubles up to win race five on Fioreyes who was paying more than $6 to win.
He’s riding in all four remaining races at Ascot today and based on his form so far you’d be bold to go against the champion jockey.
The Rooster, Famous Dain and See Ya Champ complete the placings.
Turning to the west
The races in Melbourne may be done but there’s plenty of racing still happening around the country with Ascot in the middle of its nine-race card.
It’s already been a fantastic day for the Parnham family taking out races two and three with Brad and Chris Parnham.
But they were no match for the wizard William Pike in race four taking his first win of the day on Nonesospict ahead of the Parnham brothers.
Bel Air takes the final race 10
It was a fantastic finish and Ben Melham has his second win of the day.
It’s a photo finish for the minor placings but Is It Me just gets Warnie with the bob to take second.
Marble Arch is fourth to complete what has been a thrilling race day at Flemington with a Melbourne Cup ride that will go down in history.
One more race to go
We’re about 15 minutes away from the final race at Flemington.
Rheinberg is the favourite at $3.50 but given how the day has gone so far Foujita Sam at $31 might be the way to go.
Every horse is home safe
An update over the Melbourne Cup runners with it being confirmed all horses have come away from the race with no ill effects.
That’s good news for Just Fine who finished last by more than 10 lengths from his nearest rival having led for most of the feature.
Race 9
Fancify wins it for Joe Bowditch with Tiz Invincible and Konasanna completing the top three with favourite Aviatress finishing fourth.
The sweetest feeling
Race 8
Another win for the roughies as Cataggio who was the least backed horse at $43 came over the top to beat Bosustow in a win for Gai Waterhouse.
Superlicious completes the podium.
