Perth Scorchers star Jhye Richardson will join Australia’s Test squad on Monday and miss the club’s clash with Melbourne Renegades.

The Scorchers land in Melbourne on Sunday evening after Saturday’s defeat to the Hurricanes in Hobart and Richardson will join the Test group for the first time since 2021.

But batter Josh Inglis, who is a reserve batter in the national team squad, will face the Renegades and former teammate Laurie Evans at Marvel Stadium on Monday night.

Inglis played his first Big Bash League match of the season at the weekend and made 49 before being run out as the Scorchers lost by eight wickets.

Richardson’s absence could open the door to a debut for West Australian quick Bryce Jackson, who was officially added to the squad last week as a replacement player for Test all-rounder Mitch Marsh.

Jackson has played three one-day matches for WA and took six wickets in just his second match earlier this summer.

Fellow quicks Andrew Tye and Matt Kelly are also in the travelling party, while teenage pace ace Mahli Beardman was left at home.

Tye was dropped for Saturday’s clash as the Scorchers went with an extra batter in the side and just three quicks. Lance Morris battled in that match, finishing with 0-39 from 3.2 overs.

Adam Voges’ coaching staff are likely to weigh up either Jackson or Kelly as an option to share the new ball with left-armer Jason Behrendorff.
