Surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore releases debut Rip Curl fashion collection
Ocean lovers can now dress like a world champion surfer after Stephanie Gilmore released her first fashion collection with Rip Curl.
The 36-year-old is one of the most celebrated surfers in history having won the Women’s WSL World Tour eight times and can now add fashion designer to her resume.
The Rip Curl x Stephanie Gilmore Collection is inspired by the surf brand’s archives and infused with Gilmore’s effortless flair to create a vision that is both classic and contemporary.
The range includes wetsuits, swimwear and board shorts.
Highlights include the Steph Gilmore Dawn Patrol wetsuits, which add retro flair to proven designs, and the SG One Piece Swim, offering classic coverage with embroidered logo details.
For those wanting to cosy up after a surf, there is a relaxed-fit crew sweater and heritage hoodie.
Beach-day essentials such as a 50L heavy-duty wettie bucket and a mesh beach bag complete the collection.
Of the collection, Gilmore said: “It’s been super fun to work closely with the women’s design team at Rip Curl and with my creative team to bring this collection to life.
“It’s an everyday collection for beach life—a timeless surf capsule inspired by iconic Rip Curl logos from the ’70s with classic colours, all things that I love.”
The New South Wales native began surfing at the age of 10 on the Gold Coast, thanks to the encouragement of her father.
A natural on the waves, by the time she was 17 she was already entering competitions as a wild card competitor.
Regarded as the greatest female surfer of all time, Gilmore announced in January she wouldn’t be competing in the 2024 World Surf League Championship Tour season.
Following her break, the athlete plans on returning to the competition next year.
“I am planning to take this time as a refresh for myself physically, mentally, and enjoy following swells and free surfing in new places,” Gilmore said in a statement at the time.
“I have some projects and trips I want to do, which haven’t been possible while traveling during the season. I am still passionate and dedicated to competing, and I have goals and dreams that I am still chasing – I’m excited for this year to activate those and I look forward to returning in 2025.”
